This process focuses on resolving Joint, Combined, Coalition, interagency and/or transformational war fighting and operational problems of the COCOMs. The JCTD’s resolve problems by conducting technology, operational demonstrations and operational utility assessments of mature capabilities and solutions transitioning them to the acquisition community for post-JCTD development, production, fielding and operation and maintenance (O&M). JCTD’s fill the gaps between science, technology and acquisition and are not acquisition programs or science projects. JCTD’s focus the efforts to transition results into an operational capability using a "try" with intent to buy approach.

The idea for Wilderness Medical Systems began when the young son of founder Dr. Gil Preston was injured while on a short walk in the Montana backcountry.
